The table illustrates the number of top-200 tertiary institutions from five countries in three science subjects (biology, medicine, and psychology) in the year of 2011.
As can be seen, biology was by far the most popular subject, with a total number of 123, among which the US took the lead, at 69, more than double that in the UK (30). Additionally, it is noticeable that the figures for Australia and Canada were the same, at only 9, followed by New Zealand, the lowest number of 6.
A similar trend can be seen in medicine. Specifically, the US still took the lead at 54, followed by the UK, which was noted at 24, double the number of Canada (12). Nevertheless, only 2 universities in New Zealand set courses about medicine.
Regarding psychology, 58 tertiary educational institutions in the United Stated offered tutoring, remaining the highest figure among all regions. However, the numbers in the UK, Australia, and Canada ranged between 14 and 29, with New Zealand still having the least candidates (4).
Overall, the United States showed by far the highest number of universities holding courses relevant to biology, medicine, and psychology, while New Zealand the lowest. In addition, the UK had always been following the US in the above-mentioned three subjects.
