Overall, it is clear that boys were far more involved in sports than girls, whereas girls showed significantly higher participation in dancing. Participation rates in the remaining cultural activities were relatively similar between the two genders.
In terms of sports, 70% of boys took part in this activity, compared with 50% of girls, making it the most popular activity for both groups. Playing musical instruments was also more common among boys, at 15%, while the figure for girls stood at 10%.
By contrast, dancing was considerably more popular among girls, with 25% participating, compared to only 2% of boys. The proportions for drama and singing were almost identical, with girls slightly ahead at 5% compared to 4% for boys. Participation in poetry was equal for both genders, at 5%.
