The table compares the percentages of women in parliament and management in five countries – Canada, Norway, Tobago and Trinidad, Uruguay, and Italy – in 2000. Overall, Norway and Canada had the highest share of women in parliament, whereas Italy had the greatest proportion of women in management. Additionally, the share of women in management was higher than that in parliament in every country.
Looking first at countries with the highest figures, the proportion of women in parliament in Canada stood at 28%, while this figure rose to 37% in management. By contrast, the share of women in parliament in Norway was 36%, whereas the corresponding figure for management was 52%.
Turning to the remaining countries, women accounted for 19% of parliamentary seats in Tobago and Trinidad, and this figure increased to 40% in management. The percentage of women in Uruguay, on the other hand, was just 8%, but the figure rose significantly to 37% of managers. In Italy, the proportion of women in parliament was 10%, while the figure increased noticeably to 54% in management.
