The given table illustrates the global market share of several notebook computer manufacturers over a one-year period, between 2006 and 2007.
Overall, it is apparent that there was an upward trend in the market share of three companies, namely: HP, Dell, and Toshiba. Meanwhile, the opposite trend was true for Acer, Lenovo, Fujitsu-Siemens, and other notebook computer companies. In addition, HP remained the dominant brand throughout the period.
One of the most noticeable trends was the moderate growth in the worldwide market shares of HP, Dell, and Toshiba. At the beginning of 2006, HP accounted for 31.4 per cent of global market share, followed by a consistent and gradual rise to 34 per cent in 2007. Additionally, the proportion of Toshiba’s notebook computer market climbed from 6.2% in 2006 to 7.3% in 2007. This was also true of Dell, which stood at 16.6% in 2006 and soared by 3.6% at the end of the period examined, becoming the most significant increase in the worldwide market share.
In contrast, the period surveyed witnessed a downward trend in the notebook computer market of Acer, Lenovo, Fujitsu-Siemens, and other manufacturers. Regarding Acer, its market share experienced a marked decrease, with the percentage dropping from 11.6% in 2006 to 1.7% in 2007. In terms of Lenovo, this company’s market share was at 6.6% in 2006, failing to 6.2% in 2007. Moreover, other categories declined substantially by 3.5%, from 22.8% in 2006 to 19.3% over the same period. Finally, the market share of Fujitsu-Siemens remained the lowest rate, with 4.8% and 2.3% in 2006 and 200, respectively.
