The table charts illustrate information on consumption and production quantity of potatoes in five continents in 2006.
Overall, it is readily apparent that the continent which was accounted for the largest consumption share was Europe, while Africa was the smallest. Moreover, Asia and Oceania dominated on production and surpassed Europe.
On the one hand, Europe hold the leadership on potato consumption at 96.1kg per person, while it was the second biggest producer and stood at 126.3 million tonnes, right after Asia and Oceania, which made up 131.2 million tonnes in 2006. However, the potato that was consumed in Asia and Oceania constituted 25.8kg per person. Notably, the number for South and Central America comprised 23.6kg, whereas production of it remained as the least in these areas.
On the other hand, the area which consumed the smallest portion of potato was Africa at 14.1kg per person. Additionally, the number for potato manufacturing stood at 16.4 million tonnes. Lastly, North America was the second continent that consumed the most potatoes at approximately 57kg per person, and production of it accounted for around 27 million tonnes.
