Overall, it is clear that the consumption of potatoes in Europe was the biggest figure, as well as the production of those was ranked second to Asia/ Oceania. Especially, the total number of people using those in South and Central America, Africa and North America was not as high as consumers in Europe.
Looking at the consumption, in 2006, consumers of potatoes in Europe had the highest figure, at 96.1Kg per person, followed by North America, whose people consumed more than a half of Europe’s consumption (57.9Kg). Meanwhile, the figure of those in South, Central America and Asia/Oceania was almost as equal as each other, at 23.6Kg and 25.8Kg respectively, which was roughly double compared with Africa (14.1Kg).
The production of potatoes in Europe and Asia/Oceania was roughly the same as those of Asia/Oceania in 2006, at 126.3Kg and 131.2Kg respectively. It is followed by North America, its number was approximately double that of people producing potatoes in Africa (16.4KKg) and South & Central America (15.6Kg), at 24.7Kg.
