The tables display the number of potato haven been consumed and produced across 5 regions in 2006.
Overall, the data showed that high number of potato consuming doesn’t always mean higher production. Asia/Oceania were the largest in production while the consumption only placed third among the others. Similarly, it was happening too if we compared between Africa and South and Central America. In contrast, the production rate in North America was smaller than Asia/Oceania but the consumption rate of the American was higher. Meanwhile, Europe have the second largest production, with the highest number of consumptions.
On average, one European eat 96.1 kg of potato, followed by 126.3 million ton of potato being farmed. Whereas each American mostly eat almost 58 kg potatoes but only 24.7 million ton have been produced, which was in the third position while the number of potatoes consumed place in second position.
In Africa, 16.4 million of potato have been yielded while South and Central America reached 15.6 million. Both regions have 9.5 kg difference in the figure of potato consuming, which is 14.1 kg per capita for African and 23.6 kg for South and Central America.
In 2006, Asia/Oceania with 131.2 million ton of potato being farmed were placing the first position. Despite the production, the number of potatoes eaten per person in this region were not higher rather than the American or European.
