The tables present data on Australian tourism between the years 1991 and 1999. Overall, we can see that the number of inbound visitors has been slightly bigger than the number of Australian citizens travelling abroad. In addition, it is evident that, although both tables have experienced fluctuations in their numbers, the total number of tourists has significantly increased in either cases over the years.
The proportion of inbound visitors, starting from 1991, has mostly been going up, only witnessing a decline of 3 and a half percent in 1998, and then quickly recovering. The growth all in all could be called gradual, with the number of tourists steadily rising during the time period. However, the biggest changes in percentage can be attributed to the years from 1993 to 1996, when the number of people coming to Australia rocketed up to 15 percent in comparison to the previous year.
The table illustrating Australian residents travelling abroad has been more volatile. We can see insignificant decreases in percentage in the years 1991 and 1993 respectively, and even though we can see the increase in the number of tourists, it is very marginal. The most exceptional change in percentage has happened 1996, the positive difference from the previous year accounting to 8 and a half percent, followed by other years expressing positive growth.
