The first bar chart illustrates the proportion of 14 to 16year old female and male students who studied a foreign languages, while the second bar chart indicates the proportion of students studied in French, German, and Spanish from 1984 and 2007.
Overall, the highest proportion of foreign language learned by female over the period while boys claimed a lowest proportion of foreign languages. It is noticeable that, the most popular language was French over the period but this sharply declined in 2007. Meanwhile, German, and Spanish language learner recorded a significant increase in the end of the period.
According to the data given in the first bar chart, girl was dominated in foreign language learning over the period and this figure stood at around 49% and 40% in 1984 and 2007 respectively, Beside, the boys foreign language learning was recorded at 30% and 28% in 1987 and 2007 respectively. When compared with a second bar chart, the highest number of students was studied in French language over the period and these figures stood at 50% and 33% in 1987 and 2007.Further second highest percentage of students studied in German and these figures stood at 20% and 26% in 1987 and 2007 respectively with increasing trend. However, Spanish leaning recorded at 5% and 10% in 1987 and 2007 respectively.
