The map compares the structural transformations that have taken place in the town of Shakefield from 1995 to the present day.
Overall, the town has undergone a significant modernization, transitioning from a largely natural and recreational area into a more commercialized and residential district. Most of the developments are concentrated in the northern and coastal sections, whereas the central coffee shop remains the only completely unchanged feature.
In 1995, the northern area featured farmland in the top-right corner and a public park situated just below it. To the left, there was a housing site alongside a sport area. Currently, the farmland has been converted into golf and tennis courses, while the public park has been completely cleared to make way for holiday homes and an adjacent car park. Additionally, the western housing block has been expanded, and the former sport facilities have been replaced by a row of restaurants.
In the center, two original hotels have been renovated and expanded. At the bottom of the map, the coffee shop sitting on the roadside remains untouched. However, the fish market and the nearby fish boat harbor have both been demolished. In their place, new apartment complexes have been constructed, and the surrounding water area is now used as a yacht marina.
