The two maps show the main changes which have taken place in the town of Castellón between the year 2000 and today.
Overall, it appears that Castellón has become a much more modern city, with far more shopping and transport facilities. In 2000, public facilities in Castellon were quite simple, consisting of only the train station, the city center, the northern university and a southern road. However, this has changed. Currently, Castellon is building a new train station and airport north and northeast of the city center, and the old train station has been converted into a police station. In addition, bicycle rental services and a tram to the university have been introduced in the city center, and the road has been closed to traffic to accommodate pedestrians, enhancing its pedestrian friendliness to the public of the area.
On the other hand, similar improvements are taking place at commercial venues and entertainment centers. At the beginning of the 20th century, the old market west of the city center was the only place to buy and sell. Now, Castellon has three: a new shopping center in the northeast, a new covered market in the west and a new store in place of the original market. Likewise, in 2000, there were no entertainment activities to be found, but now the previously empty harbor has become home to cinemas, bars and clubs.
