The given pie charts illustrate the energy consumption for five different purposes of an average Australian household in 1995 and 2015. The figures are given in percentages.
Overall, heating accounted for the highest proportion whilst lighting was the least used in terms of energy consumption. Heating and water heating power tended to decline whereas refrigeration and other appliances recorded an increase, and lighting remained stable in the given period.
At the beginning, heating constituted 40% of energy consumption and it decreased to 30% in the next 20 years. Similarly, water heating made up for 30% and the figure was moderately reduced by 5% in 2015. When it comes to lighting consumption, it remained unchanged compared to other types of energy usage in the given 20-year period.
Refrigeration took up 10% in 1995 and rose by 5% in 2005. Other appliances also shared the same level at one-tenth and the need of its use grew to one-fifth in 2005.
