The pie charts illustrate different segments of online purchase sales during a five-year period from 2005 to 2010 in Canada.
Overall, the data indicate a clear trend: electronics and appliances lost their authority in the marketplace, along with home furnishings, while food and beverages and video games gained significantly in the online retail sector.
Looking specifically at electronics and appliances, just above a third of sales in 2005 decreased slightly to 5% in 2010. In comparison, home furnishings held more than a quarter (25%) at the beginning of the period, then suddenly plummeted to 15% in 2010.
In contrast, video games were the smallest proportion in 2005 with insignificant 18%, increased to 5% and reached less than a quarter (23%) over next five years. In addition to
risen sectors, food and beverages showed a steady growth with 22% at the outset, exceeding just above a third in the end of the period.
