The bar chart compares the percentage of fuel from renewable energy used in transportation across six European nations and the EU average in 2009 and 2010.
Overall, the fuel usage trends varied considerably across the countries, while the average recorded a general growth. Slovakia recorded the highest figure throughout the period, despite a decline, whereas Greece maintained the lowest proportion.
In 2009, Slovakia led the group with nearly 9.5%, significantly higher than Austria, at approximately 6.5%. Slovakia’s usage had fallen to just under 8% by 2010, yet it maintained its top position. During the same period, Austria saw a similar downward trend, with its figure dipping moderately to just over 5% in the final year. However, the proportions in both countries remained consistently above the EU average, which saw an increase from roughly 4% to nearly 5%.
Regarding the remaining countries, by 2009, France’s figure stood at 6%, followed by Poland at 5%. Spain and Greece began with much lower figures, recording approximately 3.5% and 1.3%, respectively. In 2010, France remained relatively stable, with its figure hovering around 6%. The other three nations saw an upward trend; the levels of Poland and Spain increased moderately, reaching 6% and nearly 5% in the following year. Meanwhile, Greece’s figure nearly doubled, ending at 2%.
