The chart compares the proportion of renewable fuel used in the transport sector in six EU countries in 2009 and 2010, along with the European average.
Overall, Slovakia recorded by far the highest figures in both years, whereas Greece had the lowest. In addition, renewable-fuel use increased in Poland, Spain, Greece and the EU average, while it declined in Slovakia and Austria and remained unchanged in France.
In 2009, Slovakia recorded the highest figure, at 9%, followed by Austria at around 6.5%. France stood at 6%, while Poland accounted for 5%. Furthermore, Spain and Greece recorded the lowest figures, at around 3.5% and just over 1% respectively. The EU average stood at just over 4%.
A year later, Slovakia still held the leading position, although its figure fell slightly to approximately 8%. The percentage for Austria also declined, reaching 5%, while France remained unchanged at 6%. By contrast, Poland experienced a slight rise from 5% to 6%, while Spain increased from around 3.5% to nearly 5%. Greece also saw an increase, reaching 2% in 2010, although it still had the lowest figure. Notably, the EU average rose to almost 5% by the end of the period.
