The chart illustrates the percentage of fuel from renewable energy used in the transport sector in six European Union countries in 2009 and 2010, along with the overall average.
It is clear that the proportion of renewable fuel increased in Poland, Spain, and Greece, while Austria and Slovakia experienced a decline. France’s figure remained almost unchanged. Over the two years, Slovakia had the highest percentage, whereas Greece had the lowest. The EU average also showed a moderate rise between 2009 and 2010.
In 2009, Slovakia recorded the highest proportion of renewable fuel use, at approximately 9.5%, followed by Austria with around 6.5%. France stood at 6%, while Poland and Spain had figures of about 5% and 3.5% respectively. Greece had the lowest share, at just 1.1%, and the EU average was between 4% and 5%.
After one year, the figures for Slovakia and Austria fell to about 7.5% and 5% respectively. In contrast, Poland, Spain, and Greece saw increases to roughly 8%, 5%, and 2%. France’s figure remained stable at 6%. The EU average rose slightly but did not change significantly compared to the leading and trailing countries.
