The diagram below illustrates the proportion of renewable energy used as power in the transport sector across 6 EU countries in 2009 and 2010, in comparison with the overall average.
Overall, in both 2009 and 2010, Slovakia consistently had the highest proportion of renewable use, meanwhile Greece remained the lowest. Additionally, almost all countries had experienced an increasing trend over a period, except for 2 countries that had the highest position.
Beginning in 2009, the percentage of fuel consumed in Slovakia reached the peak, with above 9%, followed by Austria with 6,5% and France just over 6%. 1 year later, Slovakia saw a decline of 7,9% but still ranked in first position. Austria had the same trend when it decreased to 5,1% meanwhile France’s proportion remained stable at about 6,1%. As a result, the renewable energy used by 3 countries below surpassed the overall average over the period.
In contrast, Poland showed noticeable growth, with about 5% in 2009 then overtook Austria in 2010 with 6%. Spain also saw a steady climb of about 3.6% to 5%, respectively. Meanwhile, Greece started from a very low point of above 1% but showed a rapid increase, doubling its figure in 2010 to 2%. On average, the fuel used in transport in the EU had a slightly upward trend over the period.
