The two maps illustrate the current layout of Islip town center and the proposed developments planned for the future. Overall, the area is expected to undergo extensive modernisation, with major additions to transportation and urban facilities, while some existing structures will be redesigned.
Currently, the central area of the town contains a row of shops on both sides of the main road, however, in the future, the main road here will be converted into a pedestrian path while shops on the northern side of pedestrian path are planned to be demolished and replaced by a large shopping center. Despite the straight main road, a dual carriageway will be built that will encircle the town. Along the northern section of the road, a bus station, a car park, a shopping mall and a new housing area are planned to be constructed, replacing the current countryside.
In the south, the area currently occupied by the housing areas will be divided into two sections after expected construction of the highway. A park is the biggest amenity in the town centre, however, turning to future developments, its territory will be decreased in size to make space for the new road. The school which is located in the south-west of the town will be slightly modified and the southern row of shops will remain.
