The two graphs above provide information about some of the possible causes of death in 1990 Someland and the amount of funding (in millions ) that was invested in medical research for these diseases.
As we analyze the first graph ,which illustrates the different types of diseases and the number of deaths they cause, we can clearly notice the fact that TB holds the first spot of death causes by reaching approximately two million deaths. The fact that each the other five diseases depicted in the graph, ( Malaria. Diarrhea, Tropical diseases, leprosy, AIDS ), all have bellow 600.000 death cases in truly remarkable.
The second graph , that analyzes the medical research funding of each disease, shows that the distribution of the funding did not match the severity of each disease. Extensively, despite having the most death cases TB received the least funding, whereas AIDS, which caused the fewer deaths, received the biggest financial support, reaching 180 million dollars. Similarly, tropical diseases and leprosy were funded far more generously in comparison to their death rates.
Overall, the data indicate a contradiction between disease severity and research funding , suggesting that funding decisions were not only based on factors about mortality rates.
