Dear Vy,
How are you? I hope you are doing well! I want to tell you about a special festival I recently attended here in Trà Vinh – the Ok Om Bok Festival, also called the Moon Offering Festival of the Khmer people. It was one of the most exciting experiences I’ve had this year.
The festival took place on the full moon night of the tenth lunar month. People celebrated to thank the Moon God for good weather and a rich harvest. The city was filled with lights, colors, and cheerful sounds.
There were many interesting activities. In the morning, I watched the Ngo boat race on the river. The long, colorful boats sped across the water while everyone cheered loudly. In the evening, people prepared offerings for the Moon, including bananas, coconuts, sweet potatoes, and sweet rice flakes. Later, we released lanterns into the sky and onto the river, which looked magical under the bright moon. I felt so happy and proud to see everyone enjoying this tradition.
I hope you can attend it with me next year! We could watch the boat races, enjoy the lanterns, and taste the traditional Khmer food together.
Write back soon!
Best,
Lam
