Overall, it is clear that the number of fish caught increased for both species over the period. Tuna was consistently caught in higher numbers than swordfish, despite some fluctuations in the latter.
In 2008, approximately 80 thousand tuna were caught, compared to around 70 thousand swordfish. Both figures rose in 2009, with tuna increasing to about 95 thousand, while swordfish reached roughly 100 thousand, slightly overtaking tuna for that year.
In 2010, the number of tuna continued to rise to just over 100 thousand. In contrast, swordfish catches fell noticeably to around 75 thousand. However, by 2011, catches of both species increased again, with tuna peaking at approximately 110 thousand and swordfish reaching about 105 thousand.
