Currently, Islip town centre is characterised by an east-west road that connects various amenities including shops to the north and residential housing to the south. The south-east area features a park, while a school is situated south-west of the main thoroughfare. However, this layout is somewhat constrained, with limited connectivity and underutilisation of space.
In contrast, the proposed development features a dual carriageway encircling the town centre, significantly enhancing traffic flow. A new bus station and shopping centre are planned alongside a car park and additional housing to replace the existing shops to the north.
Furthermore, a pedestrian-only zone will facilitate walking and reduce congestion. Although the park area will be reduced, new housing is projected to emerge south of the central road, maintaining the school southwest outside dual carriageway, thereby modernising the urban landscape and improving accessibility.
