Dear Mona,

It’s been ages since I last saw you. I hope you’ve been well. Unfortunately, I’ve just been laid off from work. I thought I ‘d give you this disappointing news right away.

Recently, a lot of employees at Hewlette have been made redundant due to a new strategy to reduce costs. From what I’ve gathered the company has suffered a massive financial setback.

Nonetheless, because I could see all of this coming, I’ve been applying for other jobs since a month ago. I still haven’t received a call-back, but I’m sure it will work out in the end. I’ve got all the qualifications and credentials for a similar post elsewhere, so it will hopefully be straight forward.

Having said that, at the moment, I’m pressed for rent money. Therefore, I was wondering if it would be at all possible for me to stay at your place for a couple of weeks. I’d seriously appreciate it and return your favor in the near future. I’ll share more details about my future plans once I hear back from you.
