The aim of this report is to evaluate the results presented in a study which speaks about the number of adults from France whose parents spoke to them in their childhood into a French dialect compared to the number of them speaking these regional languages to their children.
Overall, the number of French adults who are speaking to their children into a regional language has decreased in the most cases. For example, the Occitan language being spoken occasionally has decreased to almost half of its original value over time. But there is an exception in the case of Alsatian, who has increased over time. This indicates that it has become quite popular among people.
Moreover, there are other dialects who hasn’t changed their values so much. For example, comparing the Breton language spoken habitually in the past has remained quite constant over time. Another one would be the Corsican language, who also remained constant over time.
