The provided line chart depicts the number of complaints received by the Environmental Health authorities in Newtown based on four sources of noise between 1980 and 1996. Overall, it is clearly seen that complaints related to road works, traffic noise, and factories increased over the period. In contrast, households noise complaints experienced downward trend and become least common source of noise in the end of period.

To begin with, in the first eight years of the period, complaints related to road works remained stable then it rose more than three times in 1996. Complaints of traffic noise underwent the same trend as road works, the number of it doubled from the first to the end of period. Moreover, an increase of the number can be seen in complaints related to factories also. It grew moderately in the first two years and remained unchanged for the rest of period.

By contrast, the number of complaints related to household declined gradually. During the first four years, it decreased markedly by approximately 200. It continued to fall by the same amount as in the early stage over the next eight years. Finally, it reached the lowest point in the end of the period which represented a dramatic decline of nearly 84% from its initial level.
