Overall, it can be clearly seen that male literacy rates were higher than female in almost all regions, with the exception of two regions, namely Central Asia and Central/Eastern Europe. Noticeably, Central Asia and Central/Eastern Europe stood out with the highest literacy rates for both genders, while Sub-Saharan Africa had the lowest figures.
As shown by the chart, Central Asia and Central/Eastern Europe led the chart in male and female literacy level, with an approximate percentage of 100%. This is followed by East Asia/Pacific, which recorded a slightly lower rate of nearly 98% for male, with the figure for female being around 4% lower than male, stand at 94%.
Regarding Latin America and Caribbean, the male’s rate is approximately 90%, while the female’s level is about 85%. Turning to Arab states, the male’s rate was as high as female’s level in Latin America at 85%. However, the female’s level merely 79%. As for South and West Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa areas, the female’s rates were the same at 60%, whereas the male’s were about 80% and 70%, respectively.
