The graph illustrates the proportion of sales for drug companies in America, Europe and Asia between 2002 and 2006.
Overall, while the shares of American company’s sales declined, the figures for Asia increased gradually becoming the leader among all three regions. By contrast, the percentage of sales in Europe grew slightly before decreased by the end of the period.
In 2002 American companies had the largest percentage of sales, accounting for 41%. However, after that the figures plummeted to 27% by 2004 with a slight increase up to 30% by 2006. By contrast, the shares of Asian companies followed an opposite trend. Starting from 25% in 2002, the shares grew gradually up to 40% by 2006. As a result, Asia became a region with the highest percentage of sales by the end of the period.
However, while American and Asian companies saw relatively substantial changes in shares without significant fluctuations, companies in Europe followed another trend. The figures increased in the beginning, starting from 34% in 2002 and accounting for 38% in 2004, and then started decreasing, reaching 30% by 2006.
