In contrast, the number of overseas residents visiting the UK grew at a slower pace, climbing to just over 25 million by the end of the period.
The bar chart shows that France attracted the highest number of UK visitors in 1989, at around 12 million. Spain followed with just over 10 million, while the USA, Greece, and Turkey received significantly fewer visitors, with Turkey being the least popular destination.
