The pie charts compare the popularity of a variety of recreational activities among European adults based on a survey in 1985 and 1995.
Overall, it is evident that watching TV was by far the most popular leisure activity in both given years. In 1995, computer games, which previously did not exist, were also pretty popular.
Looking at the survey results in more detail, it is noticeable that in both years about one-third of adults enjoyed watching TV. Although the figure for talking with friends rose by 5% in 1995, that of having conversations with family members dropped significantly to only 7%. Likewise, in 1985, 23% of adults mentioned eating out as their pastime; however, this figure saw a substantial fall of 15% by 1995.
Furthermore, playing computer games accounted for just above a quarter of all activities in 1995, whereas in 1985 no one played computer games. In 1985, 6% of adults attended other activities in Europe, while this figure declined by 4% in 10 years later.
