The two pie charts demonstrate a comparison of leisure activities among European adults between 1985 and 1995.
Overall, it can be seen from the charts that the most popular activity was watching TV, compared to other activities such as eating out, talking with friends, and talking with family. In addition, the emergence of computer games led to a shift in adults’ leisure interests during that time.
To begin with, watching TV accounted for the highest proportion, at about 32% in 1985, and slightly decreased to 30% in 1995. However, there was a significant change in adults’ interests in Europe over this period. In 1995, computer games appeared and quickly became the second most popular activity, occupying 27% of leisure time. Another common activity was talking with friends, which increased from 21% to 26% over the ten-year period.
In contrast, other activities became less popular among adults. For instance, in 1985, around 23% of adults were interested in eating out, but this figure fell significantly to 8% in 1995. Family-related activities, like talking with family, also decreased by more than half, from 18% in 1985 to 7% in 1995. Additionally, other recreational activities dropped from 6% in 1985 to just 2% in 1995.
