To start with, for age groups 27-36 and 37-46, the percentage of people living alone was 25% in 1850. Meanwhile, approximately 3% of 55-64 year olds resided independently. In 1900, the proprotion increased gradually for these age groups. By 1950, the percentage of 55-64 year olds living independently rose dramatically, growing from 3.5% in 1900 to 9% in 1950. Additionally, in 2000, 16.5% of 55-64-year-olds lived alone, while 47-54-year-olds contributed to 13.5%, which was a 10.5% increase from 1950.
On the other hand, in 1900, 27-36-year-olds accounted for 3%, and this percentage remained steady in 1950. Moreover, 2% of 17-26-year-olds lived alone in 1950. By 2000, the percentages increased sustancially, with 5% for 17-26 year olds and 8% for 27-36 year olds.
