Some individuals believe that intellectual workers should be paid higher salaries than sportspeople and entertainers. From my perspective, I firmly disagree with this view for various reasons.
One compelling reason is that sportspeople and entertainment workers have short career spans, given that athletes and performers usually have short careers and face high risk of injury or being out of fashion. Although artists and athletes have to train for a long time and they work in a highly competitive environment, they can only work for a short time compared to professional workers. As a result, these people need to be paid well to compensate for their efforts and awards, which they bring to the nation. A further point worth considering is that workers in the sports and entertainment industry, including footballers, or professional athletes, usually go through rigorous training to practice and enhance their physical well-being and their playing skills in each match. A prime example of this reason is that footballers usually undergo a variety of rigorous training regimens, helping them to foster their endurance, discipline and goal-scoring ability. Strict training schedules teach them self-discipline, time management and mental toughness which are useful both in sports and daily life. Consequently, due to facing the huge stress and risky jobs, they are able to achieve an appropriate pay for their efforts.
Granted, intellectual workers are more likely to give many values which are vital for the development of society and shaping of young minds. However, sportspeople and entertainers also make a significant contribution to the national economy through taxation. Many entertainers and professional athletes earn extremely high incomes, which means they pay a substantial amount of income tax. This source of revenue enables governments to invest more in essential public services such as healthcare, education, and infrastructure. Moreover, the entertainment industry generates employment opportunities in related sectors like tourism, advertising, and media, thereby stimulating overall economic growth.
In conclusion, I firmly advocate for the notion that sportspeople and entertainers should receive higher salaries than those working in the healthcare and education sectors.
