There is a view that professional employees such as doctors, nurses and teachers contribute more to society and so they should get higher salaries compared to sports and entertainment personalities. While sports and entertainment celebrities can bring benefits for society, I completely believe that doctors and teachers should be paid more, as they provide essential services for society and work under difficulties.
On the one hand, sports and entertainment figures are beneficial for economy of a country. When professional athletes and entertainment celebrities are well-known globally, a country can attract more tourists and foreign business entrepreneurs. As a result, they are not only people who earn high income, but also local businesses such as restaurants, hotels or shopping centers can make a large money, fostering economic growth of country. For example, many people travel to the USA to see talented athletes or to go to concerts of famous singers. Consequently, famous sporting and entertainment personalities can receive considerable income by attracting an increasing number of tourists.
On the other hand, professional workers contribute significantly to society by providing pivotal services. Doctors and teachers help patients, students and overall community by saving lives and educating future generations. Teachers shape children’s knowledge and character while doctors and nurses enhance public health. For instance, many well- developed countries, such as Germany, South Korea invest highly in education and healthcare, paying great income to doctors and teachers. In addition, their challenging job can be another reason why they should be paid more than others. Professional workers are required to deal with emergencies and long working hours. For example, surgeons sometimes experience time-consuming and hard operations, whereas teachers manage heavy workloads. Paying high salary can compensate their hard work, motivating them to work efficiently and improve their performance.
In conclusion, although sporting and entertainment celebrities can earn suitable salary by reaching global audience, I believe it is fair that doctors and teachers should be given higher income, as they have greater impact on society.
