Governments are responsible for protecting their citizens and keeping the country safe. Because of this, some people think that governments should spend more money on defense and spending on social benefits, while I think both areas are important for development for country.
To begin first, spending more money on defense can help a country stay safe from dangers. In today’s world, countries may face some threats such as war, terrorism and cyber attacks. Because of these reasons, if a country will have modern equipment and trained soldiers, the country will ready for every situation. Therefore, investment in defense is necessary for national security and stability.
Secondly, social benefits are also important for citizens’ living conditions. Governments provide healthcare, education , unemployment support and pensions through social spending. If governments reduce these, many people especially the poor and elderly, may face many difficulties. This could increase poverty and reduce the quality of life. Moreover, a country with healthy and educated citizens is stronger and more stable in long term.
In my opinion, governments should not reduce social benefits too much in order to increase defense spending. Both security and social welfare are important. A balanced approach, where governments spend enough on defense while continuing to support citizens, would be the best solution.
In conclusion, although defense spending is necessary to defend country, social benefits are also more important. I partly agree the governments should invest in defense, but they must maintain support for their citizens.
