Many parts of the world support themselves financially by relying on tourism. Even though it can raise opportunities to earn money, the damage caused by tourism can occur if the locals cannot manage to maintain the area properly. This essay will discuss the advantages and disadvantages related to tourism in today’s world.
To begin with, it is widely known that the travel industry is one of the biggest sources of income, especially for local citizens who are able to see opportunities to make a living by tourism such as providing accommodation, becoming a tour guide, and so on. For instance, in Tasmania, there are some travel agencies who provide trip packages for travelers who do not have their own vehicles, as it is not easy to do mobility by public transportation because of the limited amount of public transportation services. Therefore, people in Tasmania saw this issue as an opportunity to do business.
On the other hand, tourism can possibly damage the environment in the area as many people visit the same place daily, especially if visitors are not responsible about taking care of their surroundings. Take Bali as an example, specifically in Canggu, beaches look dirty and not well maintained nowadays as tourists keep visiting Canggu due to its wonderful nature and lifestyle. As a result, this affects the well-being of the environment and can possibly damage more in the future if local governments do not take rigorous action to solve this problem.
In conclusion, while tourism can support local citizens financially by giving them opportunities to provide various services for tourists, the nature in the area is at risk of losing its beauty due to the irresponsible visitors who are not aware of the surroundings.
