Nowadays, it is said that working hours should be decreased thanks to the development of technologies and automation, decreasing the necessity of manual work. While some may strongly disagree, I firmly argue that decreasing working hours has positive effects in various ways because it not only helps working efficiency but also solves overtime working problems.
To begin, there is an argument to be made that decreasing working hours significantly contributes working efficiency at work. To illustrate this point, an American giant tech company Amazon, where the average working hours is 4 to 6 hours per a worker, has made outrageous amount profit. Companies can develop even if working hours is shorter, as workers know the time when people can concentrate on does not last so long.
Furthermore, it must be stated that decreasing working hours can substantially reduce stress caused by working too much, making people healthier mentally and physically. For instance, recent scientific evidence shows that more than 70% of people in Japan has worked overtime and some of them suffer from diseases cased by stress at work, which often leads to anxiety, depression and in some extreme cases, suicide. Therefore, there is no doubt that decreasing working hours can make people healthier, as people can be put under less pressure to perform while people can have time with their friends and family to forget their work and relax.
In conclusion, I believe that the reduction of working hours can be benefit for both companies and workers because it will help not only company’s productivity but also worker’s health mentally and physically.
