Government’s’ provision of social benefits has always provoked considerable controversy. Social welfare payments are necessary to safeguard citizens’ rights even when systemic abuses are unavoidable. Given the disadvantages it offers, I completely disagree with this view.
It is a well-known fact that the potential for abuse of the social welfare system is entirely possible. There are many cases where individuals have exploited welfare programs for their own financial gain, rather than using the support for its intended purpose. This can lead to a waste of taxpayer money and resources that could be better used to support those who really require assistance.
Added to that, social welfare payments can create a culture of dependency, where individuals become reliant on governments’ support instead of working to improve their own lives. They will always think that they are supported so they don’t have to worry about anything and they are even afraid of losing these welfares.
In short, it is clear that while social welfare payments are crucial for protecting the rights of citizens to a guaranteed minimum income, it is important to deal with the potential disadvantages and challenges. From that, society has become more and more developed.
