Although families have a significant influence on a child’s life, some people believe that factors outside the home play a bigger role in their development. I partly agree with this view because families teach children important values, while schools, friends and society also have a strong impact on their personality.
On the one hand, families are essential for children’s development because parents are usually their first teachers. They teach children basic values, such as honesty, respect and responsibility. Children often learn how to behave by watching their parents. For example, if parents are kind and respectful towards other people, their children may develop similar behaviour. Moreover, family members provide emotional support and help children feel safe and confident. These lessons can influence children’s behaviour throughout their lives.
On the other hand, I believe that factors outside the home can sometimes have a greater influence, especially when children become teenagers. Firstly, schools not only provide academic knowledge but also teach students how to communicate and work in groups. Teachers can encourage students to become more independent and develop their talents. Secondly, friends can strongly influence children’s interests, habits and decisions. For instance, teenagers who spend time with hardworking classmates may become more motivated to study and achieve better results. In addition, social media exposes children to different opinions, cultures and lifestyles, which can change the way they think and understand the world.
In conclusion, although families provide the foundation for a child’s development, I believe that external factors also play a major role, particularly as children grow older. In my opinion, the best results can be achieved when children receive good guidance from their families and positive influences from the outside world.
