I firmly believe one of the main causes for this is the increase in consumerism and the high demands on a high salary. Moreover this may cause unemployement in particular industries that do not require a degree or a specified level of qualification so this not a development that could be considered as an improvement.
According to a certain groups perspectives, having multiple shifts is an uprising solution for a higher income and an improvised lifestyle. Individuals feel more confident in themselves being financially independent and having the ability to purchase their desired materialistic item rather than living paycheck to paycheck.
Conversely, another perspective contends working overtime is a result of the influencer and pop culture portraying a glorious and unrealistic lifestyle that suggests consuming and purchasing non-stop to become a socially acceptable individual. Mounting levels of inflation and prices going up constantly makes it challenging for lower class residents. Furthermore jobs that do not require a high level of education or qualification motivates such people to work overtime.
In conclusion I withold that the citizens becoming more materialistic and tending to purchase items that are out of their segment to remain relevant in the society is a negative development for nations.
