Today, many Vietnamese youngsters enjoy celebrating some festivals like Halloween or Christmas. Some people believe that this thing is not wrong while others claim that there are several effects of it. From my perspective, world festivals have various negative impacts on young people in Vietnam.
Firstly, these festivals encourage people to buy things they do not need. To explain, an world festival has many exciting things which are usually associated with advertisings and discounts, and young people are likely to be attracted by products which they never seen before, then they may buy them immediately even if they don not really need them. Thus, this matter can lead to wasting money and contributing to uncontrolled spending habits.
Secondly, celebrating world festivals may make people lose their sense of identity. For example, when youngsters join in festivals from other cultures, they can easily be fascinated by foreign custom and tradition, leading to the lost of interest in their own cultural identity. As a result, it can cause the imbalance between local and international identity, and the fading of sense of origin.
Additionally, world festivals may make young people ignore local festivals. If youngsters focus more on international festivals, they may be less keen on national festivals. Hence, it can weaken the connection between young Vietnamese people and national culture, and decrease the value of important events to local community.
In conclusion, world festivals have several negative impacts on Vietnamese youngsters such as wasting money, losing sense of identity and ignoring of local festivals. Therefore, cultural exchange and acceptance need to be balanced with the conservation of national culture.
