It is often argued that modern life is far superior to what it was a century ago. I strongly agree with this view, as remarkable progress in communication, medicine, and living standards has significantly enhanced people’s quality of life.

To begin with, developments in communication have transformed the way people interact. In the early twentieth century, sending a letter could take weeks or even months to reach its recipient. Nowadays, digital platforms enable individuals to exchange information instantly regardless of geographical distance. For example, emails, video calls, and social networking applications allow people to maintain personal and professional relationships with unprecedented ease. As a result, communication has become faster, more efficient, and more accessible than ever before.

In addition, medical science has undergone extraordinary progress over the last hundred years. In the past, infectious diseases such as tuberculosis and polio claimed millions of lives worldwide. Today, vaccines, advanced treatments, and sophisticated diagnostic techniques have dramatically reduced the prevalence of many life-threatening illnesses. Consequently, life expectancy has increased substantially, while infant mortality rates have fallen significantly. These achievements have contributed greatly to improving public well-being.

Another important improvement concerns living conditions. Amenities that were once unavailable to large sections of society, including reliable electricity, safe drinking water, and effective sanitation systems, are now widely available in many parts of the world. Such provisions have enhanced public health and reduced the spread of disease. Furthermore, governments and charitable organisations have expanded essential services, enabling more individuals to benefit from education and medical assistance. This has led to a higher standard of living for countless people.

In conclusion, life today is undeniably better than it was one hundred years ago. Revolutionary changes in communication, groundbreaking medical discoveries, and improved living conditions have made society healthier, more connected, and considerably more comfortable. For these reasons, I firmly believe that modern life offers far greater opportunities and advantages than those enjoyed by previous generations.
