Some are of the opinion that single school students perform better in academics, whilst others opine students attending mixed schools have better social skills. In my opinion, although same sex schools perform better in academics, I am in favor of mixed schools which prepare students for future life by enhancing their social skills.
Children attending mixed schools have an opportunity to grow in an inclusive environment with no separation of sexes. This will help children to better understand the opposite gender which will help improve their social and communication skills. They will have friends from opposite sex, and they will be better informed of each other’s challenges of how puberty effects physical and mental well-being which will enable them to be empathic to each other. Also, they will not be shy with opposite gender in social situations making them more confident. Mixed schools provide an environment which is representative of outside world and help children to prepare for adult life.
Children going to single schools will have distraction due to absence of opposite sex, hence they are able to focus much better on their academics and may have a slight advantage over their peers in mixed schools. However, these children will meet opposite sex outside of school and may find these social situations challenging.
In my opinion, although single school students perform better in their academics, due to an overall development inclusive of social skills in children attending mixed schools I am in favor of children going to mixed schools.
