The importance of art classes at schools is becoming a widely argued topic. While some believe art classes must be compulsory like other subjects, others think they are not too important for students’ learning. I totally believe that the arts should be taught at the same level of importance as other subjects.
Some believe that art shouldn’t be taught as thoroughly as other subjects such as math, biology, physics, and chemistry. The main reason is that they consider these subjects solely important subjects for learning. For example, today, almost all universities require a considerable amount of knowledge from math to enter them. For this reason, many parents and teachers recommend their students focus more on these compulsory subjects, rather than art.
By contrast, teaching art classes at school also comes with several positives. Improving creativity is the main one. In art classes, students are able to express their insights in whichever way they want, which affects their creativity. For instance, repainting some well-known paintings such as “Mona Lisa” by Leonardo Da Vinci also helps them to create new characters or colors to the existing art. This process is known as “remixing,” where young painters put some changes on historical art.
In addition to creativity, children will gain cultural awareness through studying arts. Experiencing more art classes at school boosts critical thinking and engages children to be enthusiastic and thorough about how to observe the world. As we are living in a modern era, we have unlimited access to the arts all over the world. Using this facility, students can explore more about the outer world’s culture and art.
In conclusion, although some prefer science subjects to be the primary subjects, I firmly believe that art is also equally important, as it improves creativity and promotes cultural awareness.
