In a modern society, more and more people are living alone or in tinier family units. There are some causes leading to that and it has some effects on society.
In my opinion, there are two primary reasons for the trend that there are fewer people living in big family units. Firstly, more and more people are living alone to save money and enhance their privacy . In a developed society, the house is very pricey so many people live alone in a small house to save money. Moreover, when living alone, they will not be annoyed and monitored by other family members so their privacy will be enhanced. Furthermore, due to the generation gap, when many generations live together in a house may create many conflicts because they don’t understand each other so a lot of people choose to live in smaller family units to avoid some conflict with their family.
There are many impacts on society due to this trend. On the one hand, living alone may cause economic recession because when someone lives alone, he or she will not marry, which leads to declining birth rates. The consequence is population aging and shrinking workforce and they cause economic recession. In some countries, this has led to concerns about the sustainability of their welfare systems and the ability to care for an aging population. On the other hand, society will benefit from the trend of more and more people living alone or in smaller family units, they can create a better habitat for the society. According to a study carried out by Hoangduong University, living in a smaller family unit can reduce resource consumption because smaller families generally have a lower ecological footprint due to decreased consumption of resources like food, water, and energy so our environment will be protected, the result is we will have a better habitat.
In conclusion, the number of people living alone or in smaller family units is increasing. This trend can be led to by two main reasons, and it has several impacts on society.
