In today’s societies, Wi-Fi is one of the most important infrastructures. Many people use the Internet on a daily basis, even outside their homes or workplaces. It has therefore been argued that central and local governments should provide free Wi-Fi.
Some people argue that providing free Wi-Fi to people would be too costly for governments. This policy would require a significant amount of money because there are too many people using the Internet who are potential targets for the policy. The network would need to be robust enough to allow many people to use this online network without frustration, which would require a lot of money. However, critics would argue that the costs of free Wi-Fi would be outweighed by the benefits. Free Wi-Fi provided by governments would bring many benefits to different people in different cases. In recent years, it has become very common for working people to use their laptops outside of their workplaces, but they often have trouble finding a comfortable network environment. The introduction of free government-funded Wi-Fi would change this, improving the working environment for these people and contributing to efficient economic activity.
Free Wi-Fi would also be vital for tourists from other countries. Typically, international tourists have few alternatives for accessing the Internet, as they do not have contracts with providers in the countries where they are staying. If governments provide free Wi-Fi for these people, they will have no difficulty in searching the Internet to check, for example, how to get to their destination. Ultimately, such a measure could help expand economies by increasing the number of tourists from other countries. In fact, some local governments in my home country, Japan, have started to provide free Wi-Fi to foreign tourists, which has led to an increase in the number of sightseeing visitors.
In conclusion, although such a measure may require a certain amount of money, providing free public Wi-Fi would bring various benefits. Governments should introduce free Wi-Fi to support employees working outside their workplace and foreign tourists.
