The debate of whether society is able to run with just using green energy sources, or society requires non-green energy sources such as oil, gas, and coal, has been done for decades since global warming became one of the major problems in society. I surmise that the industry requires non-renewable energy in addition to green energy in order to function the society as it is right now for current society.
One of the biggest problem to convert all generated energy into green energy is the number of generator required to sustain the current amount of energy generation. In current society, although since the SDG moves started, the number of generator has increased, the approximate amount of green energy convering is only one fifth of the total energy. This shows that to cover all the required energy into green energy, the society would be required to build 5 times more of current generator, while the locations that are able to build the generator are very limited.
Moreover, to build the generator, such as solar panel, the costs also has to be considered. Materials required especailly for solar panels are extremely rare compared to coals, oil, and gas, thus the cost to build each solar panel becomes expensive, although the efficiency of generating electricity is lower using solar panel. Besides the material cost, the land cost, and reparing costs has to be considered by the government. Since the use of green energy is decided based on each governments policy, thus, it is unrealistic to be able to convert all the energy generation into green energy.
In conclusion, although the most optimal ways of generating energy is to use a green energy, however, considering the required amount of generator to cover the current energy generation, and the costs that are required, I think it is unrealistic to make it happen.
