Some people believe that studying in university is the most valuable way to get a worthwhile occupation, whereas others think that gaining experience and evolving skills is more crucial. Getting hands-on experience is important because it helps people with choosing appropriate jobs and learning how to solve real issues from their field, and the development of soft skills is also essential since people learn how to communicate and work in the groups. I personally believe that completing university education is the best option as higher education provides a structured understanding of subjects that cannot be taught by experience.
On the one hand, gaining experience assists people with realizing what they need to do in order to succeed in their careers. They face real difficulties that may not be known in university. Consequently, people learn how to deal with challenges and problems that may arise in their work. After getting experience people realize what profession they really need and want. For example, some individuals may think that their chosen professions are well suited for them, but after trying them in real life they might change their minds and choose another career path. This experience may prevent them from the detrimental consequences of opting for an unsuitable occupation. Moreover, developing soft skills is one of the most important aspects of becoming a worthwhile employee.
As being able to work in a group and communication skills are highly valued, evolving them enhances one’s status as a sought-after employee.
On the other hand, university education provides people with structured comprehension of subjects that cannot be considered by first- hand knowledge. Professors in universities provide students with the theory of subjects in a lecture format. Consequently, they teach students how to use knowledge in practical terms. There are also many professions such as medicine, law and science which require theoretical knowledge and deeper delving into topics. For instance, medical students first need knowledge about organisms, genetics, and etc. Without theory they cannot practice since they are not able to distinguish symptoms of disease and do not understand why a patient is experiencing pain somewhere.
In conclusion, gaining experience is essential as it protects individuals from opting for an inappropriate occupation and trains them to solve real problems that may occur, but from my perspective university education gives people more opportunities to build worthwhile career paths through a deep understanding of their fields.
