In resent years architects tend to plan different city building like schools, offices and living buildings far away from each other. While there some benefits to locating them separate, I believe that downsides far outweigh them.
On the one hand it is undeniable that this development carries certain benefits, the most significant of which is that ist might be good for further developments in city infrastructure. In other words locating important building with huge space between them, allows city builders to do further expansion of buildings. This can be seen when you look at the design of big cities like Almaty, where new buildings appear each couple years. In that city fact that there is many space between buildings allow them to make some kind of mini center from one building. For example many shopping centers in that city at first was just one shop that then developed into huge shopping center.
However, i firmly believe that the drawbacks of this are far more substantial, particularly regarding that this development leads to the problem of movements between important places. This means that it will be hard for citizens like office workers or school students to arrive from one place to another quickly. A good example of this is students that need to spend up to 1 hour to get to the school or university even if they using car or public transport. Problems like that are frequent in big cities like Almaty that i mentioned before, in this city because of huge distance between living buildings and work places its hard to get to work, so people waste huge amount of time.
In conclusion, even if some benefits of building important places with huge distance between them are significant, i strongly believe that drawbacks like hardship of travel between them outweighs all good sides.
