Self-confidence is an essential aspect of learning. A variety of things can influence a student’s perception of confidence in the classroom and, to make this influence positive, there are two important factors — encouraging and building positive relationships with them.
A student’s lack of confidence is commonly the consequence of high expectations and discouraging behavior of their parents or teachers. This way, a child may feel neglected and confused by their actions, which leads them to lose their self-esteem. Thus, a child should get the encouragement they need to build up a proper self-confidence. A child could get encouragement through praises. Praises and compliments show the appreciation which motivates the child in the best way possible. Another way to encourage them is to show them they recognize the effort child is putting into the work. For example, when I was trying to build a confidence on my own, my parents always supported me and encouraged me by saying that they see how hard I am working. So this is one of the most important ways to contribute to the students’ confidence.
Therefore, while doing these, legal guardians must focus on their child’s relationships with their peers or teachers. Teachers are the best role models in a child’s life, so anything a teacher says and does matters for the students. For this reason, it is important to maintain a good relationship between teachers and learners. Another responsibility of parents is to ensure that the child has good communication with their classmates. Peer bullying is the worst thing that can happen to a child in their academic life. Bullying can cause trauma and anxiety in bullied people. Parents and teachers must consider harsh words as a serious problem because they can greatly hurt another person, negatively affecting children’s confidence.
On the whole, when contributing to a child’s confidence, the most important factors are encouragement and keeping relationships positive.
