It has been argued that countries should aim to supply all the food needs domestically and minimize the food imports as much as possible. While it is significantly important for countries to produce a wide variety of food locally, I personally disagree with those who consider countries should implement local poducuction and minimize the food imports by maximum.
It is true that meeting a country’s food needs is crucial for both citizens and the country as a whole. Firstly, individuals may find imported food a little expensive and feel discomfort from purchasing it. In many cases, imported food costs can noticeably differ from those that produce domestically, so local production may resolve the concerns about the daily expenses. Secondary, when the country produces a wide variety of food locally, it can boost their self-sufficiency, as the reliance on imports from others is absent. At the end of the day, there are no guarantees if the country exporting the supply needs will face a crisis or there will be a political tension between partnerships.
However, I disagree with those who believe countries should produce as much food as possible and minimize reliance on imports. Meeting citizens’ food needs is not simply about reducing imports. In fact, imports and exports play a vital role in maintaining international relationships and keeping the economy balanced. Moreover, importing certain foods can be more cost-effective than producing them locally, especially when a country lacks the right conditions for domestic production. In some cases, citizens may even prefer the quality or variety of imported food, which makes local production less competitive and, at times, unnecessary.
In conclusion, meeting the needs of the population by producing a wider variety of food without any reliance on imports can resolve the problems with costs and rise the country’s own status, but I believe that the decline of the imports can some repercussions that will definitely have a impact on certain country.
